Friday the 13th - a good day to get "blogging."

I have just finished reading an excellent book call Active, written by Dan Hastings. This is a fast moving novel that takes an interesting - if frightening - look into the future. In the book, Dan questions what might happen if successive governments, weakened by decades of never ending political correctness, finally collapse and are replaced by a hard-core of zealots. This is a great book and will be appreciated by those who enjoy a well paced story, and who benefit from an active imagination. Download it onto your Kindle now - you wont be disappointed.

Next on my reading list is a novel by Linda la Plante called Good Friday, a birthday present from one of my sons. This is a crime thriller based around the police workings of her main character, Jane Tennison. As a fan - and writer - of crime stories I look forward to reading this book, and passing comment on a later "blog."

Did anyone see the figures on American gun-crime recently? Unless I'm mistaken, I saw a figure saying that some 10,000 people have died in the last year from gun related incidents. If right, that's the equivalent of 25 jumbo jets crashing each year - or one a fortnight. If that were to happen there would be a national outcry, and things would be sorted - pretty darn quick. Yet, great swathes of the American population still cling to the right to bear arms, dating back to the days of the wild frontier. But, why not learn from history? Even Wyatt Earp, all those years ago, saw the sense of making everyone entering his town check in their guns first with the sheriff's office. You know what, it reduced shooting incidents.  For me, a recent letter to a national newspaper summed up the situation. While visiting an American supermarket, the correspondent asked where the alcohol section was.  "Why, sir, we don't sell alcohol here - this is a family store," the assistant replied, standing just yards away from of racks of firearms."

I am now starting work on my next novel and, with perseverance, I hope to have this on-line with Amazon. Again, this will be a fast-moving crime thriller following on from my earlier works. More information on this blog.
